Prevalence of Intimate Partner Violence

According to the Centers for Disease Control’s National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS), 36.4% of women and 33.6% of men in the United States experience physical abuse, sexual abuse, or stalking by an intimate partner over the course of their lives; 36.4% of women and 34.2% of men report psychological aggression by an intimate partner. In total, more than 12.4 million people are victims of sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner each year.

Many times when someone decides to leave an abusive relationship the leave with just the clothes on their back. Here is a break down of the average cost it work with a victim when they leave.

Personal hygiene kit -$25.00+ per person

Food per day- $40.00+ per person

One night in a safe place $100.00 +

Cost for transportation for one month for a survivor costs up to $100.00 ( to counseling, job interviews, doctor appointments, court, and medical care appointments)

To help repair or replace damages in the home from domestic violence could cost up to $3000.00 per person. ( fixing damages in walls, doors, locks, windows. Buying security items such as doorbell cameras, window locks, motion lights)
